  • Overtraining tends to occur in highly-
    motivated athletes; driven by a sense of
    improving performance by increasing
    training, but training too hard and too
    often to allow recovery and facilitate
    progress.

  • Athletes should monitor their
    psychological states in training and try to
    complete sessions in which rest, mental
    preparation and pre-race routines are
    practised.
